The science teacher strikes back . . .

This page is for students at Sharon Springs Central school and their parents. Think of it as an online version of my weekly newsletter, The Quark. As I get used to using Blogger there will be changes.

New Semester Begins

Living Environment: Biology

There will be a quiz on Tuesday.   You should know:

  • the parts of a nucleotide
  • use the template of one DNA strand to produce the complementary DNA strand.
  • transcribe DNA to mRNA.
  • with a copy of the genetic code, translate the mRNA to a protein.
  • describe which events occur in the nucleus and which events occur at the ribosomes.
  • describe the role of tRNA in protein synthesis.
Remember:  DNA to RNA to Protein

After the quiz we wil discuss gene mutations and then look into DNA technology, including recombinant DNA (gene splicing) and some methods used to compare DNA between two individuals.   Like all those CSI shows?  Stay tuned.

Chemistry

On Monday I'm going to go over the homework.  Look for a quiz on covalent bonding and polarity on Tuesday.
We will be talking more about intermolecular forces of attraction and why they are significant.   As soon as we do this we will prepare for a test on chemical bonding coming this Friday.

Physics

We are almost finished with work, energy and power.   Look for a quiz on Tuesday and a test Thursday or Friday.  From that point we start in on electricity and magnetism.
